What Members Thought

Just as enjoyable reading as an adult as when I was a child. I probably appreciated Matthew and Marilla more as an adult. It is quite amazing that those two took on Anne while in their 60's with no experience in raising children.
I did find Anne's chatter more irritating now, but the descriptions of PEI were delightful and something I ignored as a child.
The last quarter of the book was a listing of all of Anne's achievements and little of her faults, so that dragged a little.

Such a sweet book! I adored the imaginative and outspoken heroine, the bucolic small town of Avonlea and it's cast of characters. A great book for anyone looking for a cozy little read to lift your spirits, but it should be avoided if you dislike books that have no edge. ...more

This remains one of my absolute favorite books. Anne Shirley is one of the most delightful fictional characters, and Rachel McAdams's narration just let me experience one of my favorite stories in a new way. Every beat of this story feels like coming home. I remembered so much, but also forgot so much. It was just a delight to relive all of Anne's mishaps and hijinks.
