To all you classic pretties,
To me, I enjoyed this. It wasn't as humorous as Pride and Prejudice, but I found it more mature and romantic. Though there were many moments that I just wanted to shake Anne.
I had my husband look up how much 25,000 pounds would be equivalent to today's economy; closest he could come up with would be around 1.3 million. That, my pretties, blew my fu#%&ng mind! This country girl could live for a lifetime and longer. Was I speaking about myself or Anne, who knows?

I struggled with this, as the first quarter was just so slow with exposition. There were a lot of characters and I had to reference a chart to keep them all straight.
I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as Pride and Prejudice or Northanger Abbey, but I think I'd benefit from re-reading Persuasion some day.

I would really like to give this 3.5 stars. I always enjoy Jane Austen. There were several memorable quotes in this book. On the whole though I didn't enjoy Persuasion as much as P&P or Emma. Those remain my favorite Austen. The ending was great but through the first half of the book I wished Anne the main character would develop a little more backbone. She was a bit too wimpy at first.

I think Anne Elliot is my favorite Jane Austen character- she’s sassy, she’s smart, and she’s true to herself. She’s 27, aka a wicked old bachelorette in these times, and has few romantic prospects. Eight years ago she broke off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth. When they finally meet again, it’s a beautiful story of true love waiting.
This book was published posthumously and I found it to be so much sassier than Jane’s other novels I’ve read (Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibilit ...more

Do you feel that??? That is the earth shaking to it's core at the realization that 'Pride & Prejudice' is no longer my favorite Jane Austen novel-- this one is.
I have put off reading this book for so long because I had P&P, and does one need more?? I can honestly say: if you love P & P, but are slightly closer to 30 (or more)than you are a teenager, then 'yes'.
I love you, P&P, I do, but you are about misunderstanding in the courtship phase and newly discovered love and this book is about love fo ...more
