This book is an allegory of the Nazi occupation of France during World War Two but is broad enough in its themes to relate to any kind of hardship where people suffer and are separated from loved ones. I could relate to the book because I've been in a flood disaster which was a disruption to daily life. It also reminded me of the plight of refugees in detention centres. In the book the plague goes away but we know that the plague bacteria is dormant all around us and could break out again one da ...more
