Spirited Catherine Morland, at 17, samples the delights of Bath society, along with the pressures and betrayals that go with it, mixing with those more wealthy and educated than she is. At times her imagination runs away with her (it all gets rather gothic), but at other times, she takes things at face value and doesn't see the obvious, which is part of her charm, both to the reader and some of the men she meets. This novel is so unlike Austen's other novels. But still, I enjoyed it very much.
Catherine Morland is a young girl from Fullerton. She comes to visit Bath with her friend Mrs Allen and her husband. There, she attends balls and plays for the first time in her life. There, she meets Henry Tilney. There, she befriends Isabella Thorpe and her brother John.
This is basically a story about how appearances can be deceiving -- how people, who you think are your friends, are not really your friends.

Henry Tilney is the most underrated of Austen's heroes, but he remains a favorite. :)
