The overall concept of catch-22 was insightful. Pretty good satirical war novel, but honestly, vonnegut does it FAR better. Heller was excellent at imagery but just isn't quite witty enough to pull this type of novel off. The whole book reminded me a family guy skit that uses repetition about a half minute longer than it needs to. I understand the technique, but I got the gist after the first ten times.

I would recommend slaughterhouse five instead.

Outstanding. This is one of the best books I've ever read. Dark throughout, with a pretty macabre sense of humor. But it was funny and entertaining, and the characters were just terrific. The more experience I get with bureaucracies, the more spot-on these characters become. If Heller hadn't included so much sex with prostitutes this could have been a much more popular book. As it is, that feature is an understandable turn-off for many people, and a big reason I'm hesitant to recommend it to any ...more
