I am going to confess that I didn't read this book until 1993, after I'd seen the movie. I couldn't handle horror movies or scary books at the time, but Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas and a surprisingly good Tom Cruise really got my attention.
Now I'm a bona fide fan. I'm working toward reading everything Rice has written, and now I enjoy many other authors who write about vampires.

Ugh ...
Actually, the last 30 or 40 pages were pretty good.
But that doesn't make up (not by half) for the rest!

The story is slow, and the characters are terrible.
And not in that romantic way; the way that draws you to a villain:
The protagonist whines. A lot.
His daughter/girlfriend is just ... creepy.
And Lestat? He's just a boorish jackass.

People have told me that this wasn't her best - that it's the sequels that makes the series epic. Still ...
