This book suffers from what I call the "Margaritaville" effect. See, I have this friend who insists that Jimmy Buffet actually wrote and recorded a few really good songs before he became the father of Parrotheadism. Hoswever, it is my position that "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" create a sort of negative songwriting credibility, that the rest of his works are lessened by association. Easily the best of The Vampire Chronicles. Louis tells a compelling and heartbreaking story. Very, very good.

Updated 5/24/24: I still enjoyed this book all these years later. But what seemed interesting to 17-year-old me comes across as a bit whiney to 46-year-old me. ;)
