This was fascinating and fun, and I feel all smug that I mostly guessed the final twist. It took me ages to read it because the structure is designed so there are many chances to put it down -- the book covers thousands of years and to a large extent many different characters (there is some time dilation so there are some throughline characters, but they weren't my favorites). So I read it as a series, and picked it up and put it down every few weeks.

I really enjoyed this book of the far future where humans have abandoned earth and are trying to survive in space. In addition, there’s an unexpected result from an evolution experiment. Very good if you’re interested in imaging humans in 1000s of years and thinking about what if primates weren’t the ones to evolve to impact the planet so much?
