I think I may have inadvertently sold a bunch of Joe Abercrombie books and pissed off some elementary school parents and teachers.
Let me explain.
My son, Leif, hates reading. Everyone in our household loves to read, except him. My daughters are avid readers, I read multiple books every week, and my wife loves to read non-fiction, but my son hates reading.

This is the first book in a trilogy called The First Lawand I should stress that it is not in itself a complete story. In fact, in many ways it reads more like a prologue. A coming together of the cast and setting the stage before the story itself gets going.

A morbid sort of fantasy, where death is frequently mentioned and main characters have been maimed by torture. They make for interesting characters though, and that makes the book worth the read. Different from the many fantasy books I've read where the well-scrubbed heroes defend the honour of the shiny city on the hill.
