A problematic four stars but it is still a great page turner. Rarely now I can finish a 500 page novel in a day.
I feel weird reviewing this, as it's not a complete story. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger or anything annoying like that, but the emotional journey of the characters has only just started and the book ends with them at a very low point. I'm not sure I can say I liked this book, not really, until I see how the emotional journey of the characters plays out. Are the depths to which they sink worth it in the end? I'm really looking forward to reading (listening to) Dragon Republic but man, this book. I like dark but this is Dark. The author worked very hard to justify Rin's arc and I can't tell if it wasn't enough or if my great disappointment in Rin's life choices is evidence that it was.

I don't know why this is so popular. I thought it was pretty terrible. Needless to say, I won't be continuing on with the series.
