Part of this read was viewing my younger self reading this - hi past me! Part was seeing the age marks and noticing how the world has changed — women are people, gender is variable, colonialism has problems, ecology is complicated. This book is still great and a very appropriate read whilst spending a week at Stinson Beach.

Apparently the edition I have is pretty old and started to disintegrate during said week. Currently being held together with rubber-bands.

Reading also coincided with the Sci-Fri book club read-along which was highly enjoyable.

Up next: Jodoroski's Dune and feature film viewing.

This is probably my sixth or seventh re-reading of Dune over the years, and it still holds up. The best of science fiction, with a lore that encompasses political maneuvering, the danger of religious fervor, ecology, and meditation. Looking forward to the movie!

I kept going between 3 and 4 stars for this book, but in the end went higher because it is epic. I can't believe I got this far in life without reading Dune. I liked the deep world building, the mysticism and the plots within plots. I did not like the repetitive phrasing and really think Herbert could have used a stricter editor. However, I'm glad I read it and I think I'll try the other Dune books as well. ...more

I read this book in college, a long time ago in a city a couple hundred miles away. I've tagged it "to read" since I want to read it again. It was one of those books that I felt like I didn't totally comprehend everything that was going on the first time through, and I'd benefit from reading again. ...more
