As a time travel book, this story might be shelved as science fiction, but the heroine's tale is set in medieval times which could appeal to historical or fantasy readers, also.

Full of very stupid people that supposedly have brains somewhere in their head, and this can be very tedious to read since parts of it are repeated a lot. It really only became interesting once the plague shows up, which you knew was going to happen pretty early on so don't think its a spoiler and why one of the main characters did not realize this with all the clues I have no idea. High hopes for this from all the reviews and awards it has won, but I found it way too repetitive and really neede

I'm a big fan of the Black Death (in terms of historical study) and found this book to be very enjoyable. I wish there was more on the Danse Macabre or references to Ring-Around-The-Rosie but the portrayal was nicely done.
In terms of time travel and paradoxes and "parallel worlds"/"worlds collide" type things, I really thought the book stood out as a realistic-sounding portrayal of how time travel would work. ...more

Despite the first 2/3s bring only moderately amusing - the back end of the story is one unending series of despairs. If I had known how much sadness was contained within, I never would chosen to read the Doomsday Book. Nevertheless, I'm glad I did.
