My absolute favorite of all Austens novels. I am still in love with Captain Whentworth and every time I read it it just gets better. I love the subtle nuances of the other characters and their reactions to Anne. As the love story unfolds to the reader you can see and feel Anne changing, finally coming into her own until in the end she is able to grab happiness by the horns and danged to those who would oppose, jeer or mock her.
This book reminds me a lot of Sense and Sensibility. Like the heroine of Sense and Sensibility, Ann Eliot is emotionally frozen and sensible to a fault, such a model of manners and propriety that she hardly seems human. While the main character is impossible to relate to, the book still is Jane Austen and has interesting ideas and beautiful language.
