5 stars. I have no idea how to describe just how many emotions this book stirred within me. Best book of 2020 and I doubt I’ll read anything else this year that’s gonna top this for me.

Read this beast in high school for a literature class and found it eye-opening and extremely worthwhile. What I most remember about this family history of one Alex Haley, descended from slave Kunta Kinta (?) was the book's size. We had so many weeks to finish our project, thus reading the book and writing the review to share, and hearing students with books one-fifth the size complaining about their workload to the teacher and in front of me.

Re-read. Just as heart wrenching as the first time around. Still stands up for a great read even 30 years after my first reading.
