So... Wow... I don't know what to say really i'm so wreck right now! This book made me feel so bad, sad, happy, mad and sick. I was feeling bad for the characters. They felt so real to me. At first I was a bit confused by the narration but after that it was so cute and heartbreaking at the same time to read all this craziness narrated by a 5 years old. I cried so badly at the end. I would love to have an other book telling their story like 10 years later or something. I just want to be sure they ...more

Normally I would steer clear of any story narrated by a young child (in this case Jack, age 5) because it usually seems so contrived but this was really well done. The subject matter, the multi-year imprisonment of a young woman in a backyard shed, was a difficult one to approach but Jack's voice brought a different perspective to a horrifying time. Locked away from the "World" young Jack learns things as a child but also as a kidnap victim with no idea how to live "outside". He and his mother are a team that must learn how to live again after they finally escape. ...more

Room is about the 11x11 world of Jack and Ma. 5 year old Jack knows nothing of the world beyond Room's four walls, Ma has sheltered him from the darkness that is their reality, but time is running out. Jack is forced to be brave when most adults would crumble in order to save himself and Ma, but going Outside is more dangerous and terrifying to Jack that Room could ever be.
