“Decades ago, our ancestors realized that it is not political ideology, religious belief, race or nationalism that is to blame the warring world. Rather they determined that it was the fault of human personality- of humankind’s inclination towards evil, in

This wasn't something I would have chosen to read - dystopian is not my thing - but someone gave me the audiobook so I went ahead and listened to it. Emma Galvin's narration was good for the story but quiet and monotonous. A lot of violence - much of it gratuitous to my way of thinking - and a lot of filler - seemingly in order to create a series out of something that could have been done in one or two books. Divergent is an interestingly themed book. Set in a world that has failed, Out of this failure, emerges a society of five factions. Factiins based on human characteristics. It was easily one of the best books I've read. I read it over the course of three days, which is good timing for me, considering I also finished another book I had been ...more

The first half of this book was captivating but I had a little trouble towards the end. In a future world people are divided into factions or the factionless. The factions had uniforms, responsibilities and shared in the wealth and opportunities of the city. Those who were factionless were restricted to menial labor like carpentry (yep that is what Roth wrote) and end up begging on the streets. Honestly except for the whole begging thing, I would rather be factionless. I don't like being put int ...more
