Overall a pretty good read. I liked the characters and the conflict in the initiation. I liked that it was set in futuristic Chicago. I liked the idea of the factions....but I didn't feel like it was fleshed out enough. I needed more of that why's, more of the how's. The same thing goes for the term Divergent. I'm sure this will be fleshed out eventually but to me it was unsatisfying. There was a time in the book where I felt like I was reading "The Hunger Games" and I almost threw my iPad acros

So, instead of going all fangirl over here, I’m going to do a TOP TEN of what I absolutely loved to love and why I’m still talking about Divergent!
The way this is written (I listened on audible) I was able to totally and completely fall into the story. So much so that I had to stop my life at three hours left because I JUST COULD NOT HANDLE IT!
This is like the child of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games! Both amazing and have made one amazing but crazy baby!

This book has often been compared to "The Hunger Games" and there are many similarities, but also many differences. They are both dystopian young adult novels with a heroine who questions the status quo.
In this world, society is divided by character traits. The majority of the story takes place the Dauntless or "Brave" sect. Roth creates a group of characters that possess more than one, if not all, of the five major character traits. Tris is at her most brave when she is being selfless (an Abne ...more

I’ve had this on my TBR for a very long time. I am not a big YA Fantasy reader, but I wanted to compare the book to the movie. The basic premise is set in dystopian Chicago where the world is divided into five factions and 16 year olds much choose which faction that they want. They are then removed from their families and sent off to train in their respective faction. The story centers on Beatrice whose test results are inconclusive. This entire book reminds me of The Hunger Games, Matched, and
