So much has went on in this book. Lies, deceit, shocking surprises, and of course love and death. I can't wait to see what's next for these two and their family. So many things to learn but also find out hat is really going on and why. I really, really enjoyed this book. ...more

Ihre Welt ist nicht mehr dieselbe nach ihrem Kampf mit dem Arum. Irgendetwas scheint in Katy verändert, seit Daemon sie heilen musste. Zunächst beginnt das Schuljahr wie immer mit einem nervigen Außerirdischen der es nicht lassen kann sie mit einem Stift in der Klasse zu picksen, doch dann gibt es einen Neuzugang. Als Surfer sieht Blake fantastisch aus und scheint auch Interesse an Katy zu haben. Sehr zum Missfallen von Daemon. Doch das ist es was sie jetzt braucht, normale Verabredungen mit einem normalen Typen. Denn irgendwie geschehen merkwürdige Dinge um sie herum. Offensichtlich hat die Heilung durch einen Luxen Katys DNA durcheinandergewirbelt und sie scheint dieselben Kräfte zu entwickeln wie Daemon. Der hat es sich nun überlegt und zur Aufgabe gemacht, ihr Herz für sich zu gewinnen auf seine einzigartige ruppige Art. Katy denkt jedoch nicht daran nachzugeben. Bis sie der verstorbenen Freundin von Daemons Bruder begegnet und mit ihm zusammenarbeiten muss. Aber auch Blake scheint nicht das zu sein, was er vorgibt.

Nachdem ich ein paar Schwierigkeiten mit „Obsidian“ hatte, habe ich gehofft es würde mit „Onyx“ besser werden. Aber da wurde ich enttäuscht. Zumindest wurde es nicht schlimmer. Der Schreibstil der Autorin war es was mich zum Weiterlesen animierte. Dieses Buch war ein guter Begleiter in Bus und Bahn, wo man trotz akustischer Störungen der Story noch leicht folgen konnte, zudem vermochte ich hervorragend den Kopf ausschalten und mich auf die Liebesgeschichte von Katy und Daemon zu konzentrieren. Der Plot an sich ist auch gut entwickelt, womit ich meine Schwierigkeiten hatte, waren die Charaktere. Ich persönlich mag Katy immer noch nicht. Obwohl sie als absoluter Buchliebhaber und Vielleser, mir eigentlich sympathisch sein sollte. Aber es tut mir leid, ihr Kleinmädchennaivität und ihren Zickereien mit Daemon gingen mir schon in Band eins auf den Keks und es wurde einfach nicht besser. Zumal die angedeutete Dreiecksbeziehung Spannung in die Geschichte bringen sollte, aber da Katy nichts für Blake empfindet und nur mit ihm auszugehen scheint, weil er eben nicht außerirdisch ist, war das wohl verfehlt. Daemon kommt aber auch nicht viel besser weg, er hat eine sehr überhebliche bestimmende Art an sich und kommandiert Katy eher herum, als sie charmant für sich zu gewinnen. Ich gestehe das ich in meiner Jugend das auch noch sexy fand. Da habe ich aber herrisches Verhalten verwechselt mit „Wissen-was-man(n)-möchte“. Heute mit ein bisschen mehr Erfahrung kann ich zwischen beidem unterscheiden und Daemon ist nicht Selbstbewusst sondern ein Kontrollfreak. Was mich ebenso den Kopf schütteln ließ war die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Katy und ihrer Mutter als Deamon aus Versehen bei ihr im Bett vorgefunden wurde. Erstens lässt sie ja ihre Tochter bedingt durch ihre Arbeit nachts allein und Zweitens ist Katy zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon 18 und ihre Mutter mit ihrem Freund jetzt auch kein Kind von Traurigkeit. Aber vielleicht sehe ich das aus einer liberaleren europäischen Sicht und in Amerika ist das eher verpönt. Ich hätte es cooler gefunden, wenn die Mutter sich eher zu einem Gespräch über den erwachsenen Umgang mit Zuneigung herabgelassen hätte, als mit elterlichen Sanktionen zu drohen. Aber sei es drum. Das Konzept der Aliens und der geheimen Behörde verwirrt mich noch immer und ich kann die Intention dahinter nicht zuordnen. Vielleicht kommt das ja mit dem nächsten Band.

Trotz der offensichtlichen Schwächen der Charakter beziehungsweise mit meiner Empfindung ihnen gegenüber, habe ich noch viele Zug- und Bahnfahrten vor mir in denen mich Katy und Daemon von sich überzeugen können.

3 stars. Unfortunately, this book definitely suffered from second book syndrome for me. I just did not enjoy it as much as I did Obsidian and I really, really tried to like this one. It was just so much that annoyed the crap out of me.

I'll start off with the positives. This book doesn't have that Twilight feel to it, thank goodness. The writing is still superb. The story was way more action packed then the first book and we got more information about the Lux and Arum which I found to be very int 3 stars. Unfortunately, this book definitely suffered from second book syndrome for me. I just did not enjoy it as much as I did Obsidian and I really, really tried to like this one. It was just so much that annoyed the crap out of me.

I can honestly say that I did not see that coming.

Now, on to what worked my nerves. Cliches. Cliches, cliches, cliches. My goodness it was ridiculous. The book started off making fun of a certain cliche and then turning around and doing the same cliche itself and that annoyed me to no end. I absolutely hated the love triangle but not love triangle with mysterious guy from out of town (view spoiler) and all of the stupid three-way tension. I also hated that most of the characters were either not featured in this book as much or they all of a sudden became annoying. And the last minute villain was weak and I saw through his shit as soon as he was introduced.

Katy went from this awesome, bad ass boss of a character to a whiny, jealous and reckless thirteen year old. What the hell happened? I wanted to stab her throughout the entire book. I hated that she would flirt, go on dates and even kissed the new guy Blake but then would get all jealous whenever Daemon even looked at another girl. She didn't want to be with him but then she did but then she didn't and then she did again...blah blah blah. I didn't like the 'romance' here, I didn't like that Katy had a bad feeling about Blake after she began training with him but then she would still go with him to places and trust him with information that she shouldn't have. I also hated how she was so apologetic about every fucking thing when it came to Daemon. He would be in the wrong and say something really mean to her and then she would flip it around and blame herself for his anger. Um...what?! Katy from the first book would not have put up with that shit at all! I was so disappointed in her.

Daemon is still my favorite character. He was still an asshole but he did show more of a softer side here. The only thing I didn't like was his all of a sudden creepy over protectiveness of Katy. It got to a Edward Cullen level of protective and I am not down with that shit at all. I also was worn out on all of his names for Blake. It was funny the first five times but by the hundredth damn time he did it I was ready to punch him in the face. I still love him.

All the other characters, Dee, Ash, etc. weren't really in this book. Dee was only there to talk about how much sex she was having with Adam or trying to get Kat to go to some party. I wanted more of an development for her because I really do enjoy her character.

All in all, I'm just very disappointed with this book. But, thanks to that cliffhanger I do want to start the next book soon. ...more
