I stared at the pile of boxes in my new bedroom.

Katy and her mom have moved to small town Ketterman, West Virginia from Florida after the death of her dad. Her mom encourages her to introduce herself to the neighbors for companionship. Daemon Black is an egotistical jerk that looks like an angel. His twin Dee is a lovely, happy sprite. Daemon does everything possible to keep Dee and Katy from becoming friends because of their deep dark secret.

Loved it! I will definitely be reading the rest of these! For a YA, I found these to be very well written, with just the right amount of romance-y fun stuff...for those of you who enjoy your romances a bit on the hot side like I do, you will know what I mean. ;) Of course, it is a teen book, so it is still pretty clean considering...I just thought that it was written in such a way that content didn't matter as much. As my first JLA book, I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical. Armentrout churns out books faster than I can imagine and the only other author I can think of that does that is Danielle Steel (FYI, not good in my opinion). But the rave reviews by all of the blogosphere coupled with the #JLARC as hosted by Deity Island, I couldn't let the moment pass me. And boy, oh boy did Obsidian deliver.

Katy is my favorite MC in the history of forever. Honestly, she's freaking awesome. She's sarcastic and strong and capably independent... and a book blogger. I connected with her on so many levels and understood the angst, fear, loss, elation, butterflies, raw desire, etc. that I've never felt before with a protagonist. Yes, she's living in a world where there's aliens, which at this point in my life, I can't say I experience (could be, but that's me being a conspiracy theorist...). But the way she handles everything, from spaghetti to bathing suits to freak outs to finding-out-the-hottest-guy-on-the-planet-is-an-alien, it was just so familiar.

One of my favorite aspects of Obsidian was the nerve grinding, heart palpitating sexual tension that never ended throughout all 330+ pages. I felt it in my bones. I wanted the tension to break and for Katy and Daemon to do as the Romans do, so to speak. But I also loved that building desire that was absolutely feel-able and tingly. Obsidian more than accomplished subtly what 50 Shades of Grey tries to do explicitly.

The action was non-stop, the twists and turns abound. Armentrout introduced this alien race with ease - their true forms, the idea of leaving a trace, the importance of keeping quiet and secluded and the enemies, the Arum. All was well explained. I felt like it was real... which it might be.

What else did I love about Obsidian? Daemon. End of discussion.

There are, unfortunately, a couple things that bugged me ever-so-slightly about Obsidian.
- The cover. JLA has lots of books. Surely we could do better with the cover, right? The Covenant series is a testament to that. But, I will say that this is strong evidence to reading the book without considering the cover cause the pages more than make up for it.
- The bottom-of-the-stomach familiarity I experienced as compared to Twilight. There are several factors that are just all too recognizable from that series. What Obsidian brought to the table, however, was better writing, a cooler more interesting MC and a legitimately hot guy.

I will stop there. I'm afraid I'll start word-vomiting the whole story and that would be no fun for you all. Seriously, I would recommend this to anybody. I'm going to recommend this to everybody. Read it. Read it yesterday. And again today. It's witty and funny and all around awesome.
