Mairin was a kick-ass character and she was perfectly matched with Ewan. I really loved the back and forth banter of the two. They were a really good match.

So this book reminds me some of a Julie Garwood historical romance only not as well done. It didn't have the humor nor the historical realism that her books have. Still I enjoyed it.
There was nothing new or original in this story but I liked the characters. The dialogue didn't fit with the time period and it could have taken place anywhere. The hero did use the word Lass but other than that there wasn't anything that distinguished him from another alpha male. The book has more heat than a typic ...more

Well, I was a bit disappointed there were no kilts, but otherwise I loved this book! Mairin Stuart has been in hiding for years. She's the illegitimate daughter of deceased King Alexander and the heir to valuable land and a big dowry. She's been hiding out with nuns in an abby, when she is kidnapped by Duncan Cameron who is going to force her to marry him so he can claim her riches. During her ordeal she comes across a young boy, who turns out to be the son of Ewan McCabe. They end up being resc

Mairin is taken from her hiding place in the abbey by Laird Cameron's men. If Mairin marries and has a child, her uncle will give the husband some valuable land and a large dowry. That is why she is in hiding. Along the way to Cameron's land, a boy tries to steal a horse and escape with it. Mairin protects him. They arrive at the Laird's castle and he tries to force her to marry him. But she refuses. He beats her almost to death for it. During the night, a servant woman awakens Mairin and tells

I am not a huge fan of historical fiction usually but I love Maya Banks! There is just something about the way that she does it that I totally fall in love!
I have already read what is available of the Montgomery/Armstrong series, which I loved! I was even a little confused when I started if they had any connection, and it was long enough ago that I still am a bit unsure!
I loved it though and I am really looking forward to reading more of the trilogy and more Maya Banks!
