5 stars. I look like Boo Boo the Fool right now. After reading book two in this series back in September I said that I wouldn't continue on with the series because I hated that book and book one wasn’t that great either. My reason for picking up this book is Instagram. It’s all Instagram’s fault. Someone I follow raves about this book and Sebastian frequently and I needed to see what all of the hype was about. I had absolutely zero expectations going into this but after reading it I get it now. 5 stars. I look like Boo Boo the Fool right now. I had absolutely zero expectations going into this but after reading it I get it now. Dear Lord do I get it now. I already have a physical copy of this book coming from amazon that I ordered immediately after I finished. That's how much I loved it.

This is not only the best book in this series (I’m calling it now, book four is not going to be able to even come close to this one) but it’s the best Kleypas book that I’ve read thus far. She completely knocked it out of the park with this one. It has just about everything I love in a romance. Marriage of convenience, an emotionally stunted and jackass of a hero, a heroine who grows stronger as the story goes on, and chemistry between the two that is undeniable. I loved everything.

Sebastian and Evie are wonderful characters. Both go through some really well done (and subtle in Sebastian’s case) character development. Evie starts off as this very shy and stammering wallflower but I liked her right from the jump. She was stronger than she realized and gave herself credit for. She stands up for herself and what she wants and I love that she had no problem putting Sebastian in his place when he was being insufferable.

I’m not going to lie, I loved Sebastian right from the beginning. He’s just my kind of hero. I adore a jackass hero when done right and he was definitely done right. He’s crass and rude but the way Kleypas handled his development made his character so fascinating. When he started catching feelings for Evie he was still unpredictable but the things he would do for her and the way he protected her were pretty big things. He let her know he cared in his own way and it was wonderful. They have such great chemistry and the fact that he’s such a smartass made it even better because some of their conversations had some great banter in it.

”Nobody’s told me that I’m a comfortable sort. I’m sure I don’t like it. I’ll have to do something diabolical soon to correct your impression.”

Like I said, everything about this worked for me. There’s angst, action, and some really steamy scenes. It was wonderful. I cannot recommend this book enough. Slogging through the first two books was totally worth it to read this one. I will definitely be re-reading this and I cannot wait to fall in love with it all over again. ...more

So wie Draußen vor der Tür das emotionale Äquivalent davon ist eine Stunde lang mit einem Hammer verprügelt zu werden (und das meine ich als Kompliment), ist dieses Buch das Äquivalent davon sich an einem verregneten Herbsttag in eine heiße Wanne zu legen und heißen Kakao zu trinken. Es ist warm und süß und wohlig, nicht besonders nährstoffreich und nicht produktiv, aber einfach wunderschön und genießerisch.
Auch diese Bücher haben eine Daseinsberechtigung, auch wenn so gerne auf sie herabgesehe ...more

This is my second Kleypas novel and I'd heard that every Kleypas fan's favorite hero was either Derek Craven or Sebastian St. Vincent. And I think I can definitely say between those two I fall in the Derek Craven camp. Sebastian just never quite won me over in the book.

The first part of this book was just okay for me. I wasn't super into either character really, though I did feel for Evie with her situation. And the first steamy scene in this book kind of put me off a little. That being ...more

I don't recall the year I read my first Lisa Kleypas story.
Perhaps it was 2010ish? What I do remember, vividly, fondly? Running to Barnes and Noble, scooping up EVERY paperback that was new to me in a very Golum-like fashion...My Precious!! LOL
And this series, the Wallflowers, was my gold standard.
Until the Hathaways...Cam and Merripen...swarthy swoonworthiness!!
Until Rhys Winterbourne...poke me, I'm done ;)
I don't have a favorite Wallflower or hero, as they make up quite an ensemble.
