4 stars. This one started off slower than the other books for me but it picks up at about 30% and it was a ride all the way to the end. Speaking of the end, it was just as good as the ending of book three. Super sweet and adorable. I love Kate and Curran’s relationship and it took a really nice turn here. It was great seeing Kate let her guard down and be so incredibly vulnerable about her feelings for him.

Another fast-paced action-packed episode...er... book. I like the character progression and how the various relationships (not just Kate and Curran, but them too) have been growing in the midst of all the chaos. The threads about Kate's past feel like they're coming together, which is interesting as well. ...more

The most important part of this book is Kate's relationship with Curran, so of course, it is a 5 star. At the beginning, Kate is in her sexiest underwear waiting for Curran to show up for the dinner she has made for him. Only problem is, he's four hours late and when she calls the Keep to find out what happened she is told he doesn't want to speak to her and to go through proper channels in the future. Kate channels her pain and confusion into anger and a determination to focus on her job and be The most important part of this book is Kate's relationship with Curran, so of course, it is a 5 star. Kate channels her pain and confusion into anger and a determination to focus on her job and be done with Curran forever. Fortunately for us, she and Curran can't leave each other alone, no matter how strongly they feel the other has "wronged" them, and their "courtship" provides a lot of humor before (view spoiler) We also learn more about Curran's background and his motivation for ruling the shapeshifters.

This installment in the series also brings Kate one step closer to her eventual confrontation with Roland. This time the evil she must confront comes in the form of someone very close to Roland who controls seven undead that bring plague and destruction to Atlanta. The villain is suitably villainous and Kate's battles with them reveal even more about the power that Kate herself possesses. Kate is her usual badass self, determined to protect everyone she cares about--especially Curran and Julie--no matter the risk to herself. Whereas before, as an employee of the Order of Knights, she tried to present a neutral front when dealing with the various groups vying for power in Atlanta, now she (view spoiler). Even though some major questions are answered in this book, there is still much to look forward to. Will Andrea and Raphael be able to heal the rift between them? When will Roland and Kate have their showdown? When will Julie and Derek get together? (Okay, this is just me. I know she is too young right now, but no harm in looking further down the road). When last we were in the company of Kate & Curran the smoldering embers were primed for stoking. Kate finally began to show signs of maturity (declarations of intent notwithstanding).
