This reads like a true story and even the acknowledgements in the front by the author imply that it's based on a true story but some of the author blurbs on the back call it great fiction. So I'm confused but either way, it's a rather scary book with a realistic possibility with all the space probing NASA does. It's one of those books you read straight through because the action and suspense are gripping.

I've definitely never said "I wished this fiction read more like a non-fiction", but somehow the conceit works in this book. I loved that even in the Acknowledgements in the beginning it started us off as if we were reading a non-fiction, and I bet in the 1960's when this first came out, that was quite unique. A satellite sent to collect samples of life from the fringes of Earth's atmosphere lands in a remote part of Arizona and most of the town dies strangely. This leads to the Wildfire Team being called in to isolate and determine the cause of the deaths. The book had a lot of scientific detail, some of which is pretty dated since it's from the late 1960's.
