Although, I’ve sat down to type out my review for Speak multiple times, words never came. It’s been over a month since I read the book, even now I’m staring at my laptop screen, my brain can’t string any words for review and I can see Speak rendered me an emotional wreck. Okay, so now this is one of my favorite books of all time.
I think a lot of it is timing - I really needed to read this book right now where I am personally (even the fact that it is set in Syracuse, where I'm currently living).
This book is powerful yet subtle in its language. And most importantly, it tells a good story. It's not the author's intention to preach or make any judgments on the characters in this book, but it is informing and realistic. I guess I also like it because it seems to be m ...more

Read this in one sitting. The progression of the main character's depression and acceptance was very realistic and added to the arc of this story. I am shocked that it is a banned book. Every middle school and high school student should have to read this book.
