A re-read of one of my favorite books ever. This time I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stephen Fry, whose Marvin voice was wonderful. I had forgotten quite a bit, apparently, only remembering the large friendly "Don't Panic" (which is wonderful advice, by the way). I think I can trace my abiding loathing of voice operated devices comes from this book's Eddie. Also, I'd love to drink the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Even though it's going to feel like having my brain smashed by a slice of

4 stars. This was absolutely hilarious! Stephen Fry is the narrator and he does an outstanding job with it. It was entertaining from beginning to end, not a dull moment in sight. I honestly don't know if I would've enjoyed this as much if I had read it but as is, it was great and a really fun listen.
If you have to read this book or even if you have read it, I highly suggest listening to the audiobook. I hope my library gets the other books in this series soon because I did really enjoy the crazy ...more

Science fiction is not often on my to-read lists, but once in a while, I go for it, sometimes with success, sometimes not. However, this book has been on my TBR list for a long time. For some reason, I kept putting it off until now.
Much to my surprise this was a wonderful and funny book. I enjoyed it: the humor, the surrealism, the never knowing what is coming, the unforgettable characters, the names the characters got, the 'everything is possible' vibe and so much more.

Despite recommendations, I had been putting off reading this. I am not a fan of tongue in cheek humor or absurd worlds and it had been likened to a couple of authors I did not find humorous. So, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this. Arthur Dent is yanked off earth by his friend Ford Perfect (space alien) just before it is demolished to make way for a galactic highway. So begins an hilarious adventure hopping around space, joining up with a couple of thieves on the run and trying t

I know it's sacrilege to give this legendary sci-fi icon anything less than 5-stars, but it was just not for me. After literally decades of having this book on my TBR, I finally picked it up only to struggle for months to get through its 200 or so pages when I should have been able to breeze through in an afternoon. I found it to be a torturous volume of one-liners that were not even the slightest bit funny. It felt contrived, forced and pointless. Descriptive sentences dragged on endlessly desc
