Listened to the unabridged version performed by Stephen Fry - and it was entertaining, but I think it was probably better as a radio drama. The constant plot shifts didn't hold my attention.

This was an enjoyable read. I found it hard to get into at the beginning but I really enjoyed the twists it had in in. I found it amazing how much in it is now comes up in general knowledge.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the read for me. For my taste, it was very much Dr. Who with variations on ‘insider galactic jokes’, sometimes clever but mostly missing the mark. That’s not to say it’s a horrid read. It isn’t, it’s fast paced, witty and has glimpses of brilliance. However, the story was ‘too loose’, too talky and had too many tangents for my taste.
