I absolutely loved this book. It's sacrilegious, irreverent and totally hilarious. This is basically a story of an angel and a demon, mortal enemies who become friends just by proximity. They've been hanging around Earth (well England actually) for centuries, just waiting for the apocalypse, that they have become friends and allies. The world is going to end. On Saturday. This has been long in the making, and was foretold centuries ago by an eccentric woman named Agnes Nutter. You would have known this if you had read her book. Of course, you would have to find a copy of the elusive tome, as only one is still in existence.

A very entertaining collaboration by two masters.
It's been so long since I first read this (can it possibly be 30+ years?) that I'd forgotten how much fun it is. It's and adult children's story, complete with social commentary & games. The interaction between Crowley & Aziraphale is excellent, & this time I was able to picture David & Martin (wonderful actors, both) in the roles. I like to imagine Terry & Neil chatting about what comes next - perhaps they had an ineffable plan. ...more

This book just didn't work for me. I'm not sure what I expected but I know I didn't get it. I found it mildly amusing at best. Which is far from the reputation it has of being one of the funniest books ever written. I did like that character of Newt though. But then again I have a soft spot for the shy and awkward. He was the only thing I really liked about the story. I'd rate it 1.5 stars.

I'm trying this again. Listening in shorter sessions as I think my mind will wander less. Am hearing much that I miss the first time around. This book is hilarious. It's wonderful to laugh out loud at something that I've heard a couple of times before, but it is just so funny. I think I will have to buy a hard copy to read again. :-)

The antichrist has been born but there is a mixup at the hospital and he ends up with the wrong family. Angel Azaraphel and Demon Crowley try to stop the apocalypse from coming because they enjoy living on Earth. Two witch hunters and the last descendent of Agnes Nutter (witch) also become involved in the story. A fun story.
