I don't think that I can put into words the love that I have for this book, but I will certainly try my best. This book is special. Unique. Without a doubt, this book is like nothing that I have read before. I wasn't really certain what to expect when I picked it up. To be simply honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. The concept sounded compelling, but I still had my doubts. Needless to say, those doubts have been dashed and slashed to pieces.

This is a really fast-paced, suspenseful thriller about survival and the rights of children. In this society, abortion is illegal but parents can choose to "abort" their 13-18 year old teenager. Called unwinding where various body parts (well all of them actually) are given to save the lives of other people. How humane. Unless your the person being unwound but hey you don't die, your body parts are just reassigned to someone more deserving of life.

Lots of unique story elements and a very discussible (controversial and thought-provoking) book, perfect for book clubs. Story kept me guessing, characters were sympathetic and believable, and 3+ different points of view were fascinating and gave story more depth. WARNING: Chapter 61 is disturbing, consider yourself warned.

I freaking loved this book. I loved all of the characters in it. Lev was a little shit at first but he grew on me. I even ended up feeling sympathy towards Roland by the end of the book. I did not expect that at all. There are so many great YA dystopian books out there right now. But I hope this book does not get lost in the sauce. It should definitely be given a chance and I will be recommending this book to everybody I know who enjoys this genre.

This book turned out to be much better than expected. The whole story is based on the idea that there has been a second civil war in the United States over the issue of abortion. The two sides agree to end the war when someone comes up with the ridiculous idea of "unwinding." While you can't abort a fetus, you can decide the retroactively "abort" when the child is between the ages of 13 and 18. The child isn't considered killed, instead all of the body parts are taken and used elswhere. (Living

This book was extremely good. I'm very picky about giving out my four and five star ratings but this was difantely a 4 star for me. The only way I would have rated it a 5 star is if one of the characters were included in the end with the rest of them. I loved the futuriest aspect of the story. The whole Unwinding process and the clappers was so funny but yet so weird. Definately made me want to read more of Shusterman' ...more
