Well, I'm not ok after reading this omg. This was a horrible story, and by "horrible," I mean it tore out my heart, ripped it to shreds, stomped on the pieces, then gathered them up in a bin and offered them back to me. Like I can just put the pieces back together and be fine.

I thought this was such a great book. Once I got started it was hard to put down. Conner was such a great main character. It was also a very sad story, but powerful story about a young boy dealing with his mother and her illness. Also how people treat him because of what was happening to his mother.

For a younger reader this isn't bad. As an adult I struggled a bit to get into this. The characters just didn't come to life for me. I wanted to feel for Conner and what he was going through but I felt detached. It took awhile to get into the story. I felt parts were left out of something. I have read a couple of this Author's book as part of a trilogy; while waiting for the third I decided to give this one a go and I am so glad I did. The book is dotted with black and white illustrations which enhance rather than distract from the text. While the cover and title implies that this book may be a horror/thriller, it is in fact a very moving allegory about a boy having to deal with his inner monsters that have arisen in his dreams relating to his Mother's illness and a real monster w
