What Members Thought

It's been a while since I read the first two books in this series, but I remember liking them a lot more...This one got off to a really slow start for me. Part of that is that I couldn't remember much of the first two books (my fault for waiting so long to grab this one!) but also part of it was because Harry was just insufferable! He gets better as the novel goes on, but some of the white knight, misogynistic shit really bugged me at the beginning. Normally that wouldn't be a huge deal for me,

Dear Harry
Despite our meeting being a fun set up, by well meaning friends who thought you'd be perfect for me; a wizard with werewolves, fae, spirits and vampires for friends and enemies; I was glad when our time was over. Maybe I'm too picky, so I went again but again no thrill for between us. Then your grandmother, of all people, explained you're awkward and asked for another chance on your behalf.

I'll admit these books are getting better and this was definitely the best one yet, but I'm still not completely sold on wanting to read all of them. I still have the next one in the series on hand, so I'll probably make a decision after that.
This one deals with a weakening of the barrier between the real world and Nevernever (I think it was called), allowing ghosts to get through into the world when the sun goes down. It heavily involves vampires and was a quick read once I got over a hump wher ...more

4 stars.
The series is off the 'dropping series' bubble for me.
As soon as I opened the first page I was sucked into the story. Ghosts are one of my top 5 favorite paranormal entity. And JB really got me invested in what was making all these ghosts manifest stronger and come about more often over the last couple weeks/months.
Butcher kept the story flowing well, as the story continued the baddies got badder and higher up and I got more worried about Harry.

I think I love Harry Dresden. Although that could be deadly. Harry and Michael (the Fist of God) are fighting a new surge of spirit activity that leads to a showdown with the local vampire souncil. Good action, good storyline and great characters. 4.5 stars

I'm only three books into this series, and I'm already thinking that each one gets better than the last! This one starts off fast, with Harry and a new character, Michael, hunting down a ghost in Cook County Hospital. The action really never lets up from there. I was on the edge of my seat a large majority of the time.
The only negative thing I can say is that I did occasionally feel a little lost, like I had missed a novella or something. The missing backstory was eventually revealed, b ...more
