The third Harry Dresden novel finds Chicago’s only professional wizard puzzled by a sudden increase in spirit activity in the Windy City. Who or What is agitating the ghosts? In this book we are introduced to Michael Carpenter, one of God’s knights – a righteous man who fights evil with the help of his sword Amoracchius. Lt Karrin Murphy plays a backseat in this one, as she is under a spell for most of the book. Harry and Michael will battle ghosts, a nightmare, vampires and his faerie god ...more

It's been a while since I read the first two books in this series, but I remember liking them a lot more...This one got off to a really slow start for me. Part of that is that I couldn't remember much of the first two books (my fault for waiting so long to grab this one!) but also part of it was because Harry was just insufferable! He gets better as the novel goes on, but some of the white knight, misogynistic shit really bugged me at the beginning. Normally that wouldn't be a huge deal for me,

I'll admit these books are getting better and this was definitely the best one yet, but I'm still not completely sold on wanting to read all of them. I still have the next one in the series on hand, so I'll probably make a decision after that.
This one deals with a weakening of the barrier between the real world and Nevernever (I think it was called), allowing ghosts to get through into the world when the sun goes down. It heavily involves vampires and was a quick read once I got over a hump wher ...more

This was an amazing story from the first word to the last! There was so much going on, but it wove together beautifully and the result is the first emotional roller coaster ride I’ve had with this series. I came to this series for a challenge and James Marsters (audio narrator and “Spike” from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), but I have continued because it is a great series. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Throughout most of this book I told myself this would be the last of the Harry Dresden books I read, but when I got to the end, there was enough of a twist that I probably want to find out what happens next. I really like the character of Harry, Chicago's only wizard-for-hire. And I especially love the way James Marsters narrates the books. The problem is that they get sillier and sillier. Harry's always down to his absolutely last drop of wizarding power when he's able to conjure up a major spe

A very Anita Blake feel to this book. Poor Harry is beset on all sides with baddies - warlocks, vampires and fae. The action and the threats to Harry and his friend's never stop. Just like Anita, he survives one encounter to tumble directly into another and another. I greatly enjoyed this installment but the typos, missing letters and wrong tenses indicated that no one edited this book before publication. It's very distracting to try to figure out what was supposed to have been printed instead o

I think I love Harry Dresden. Although that could be deadly. Harry and Michael (the Fist of God) are fighting a new surge of spirit activity that leads to a showdown with the local vampire souncil. Good action, good storyline and great characters. 4.5 stars
