I had a blast with this one. Magic, spells, talismans, humor, and giant toad demons. Oh, don't forget the talking skull spirit and the Mafia.

Will read more of this series fo sho.

Well, this was a fun ride. I'm not sure what I was expecting beyond the recommendations of a good book. It was a good enough first book for me to want to read the next few books. I do know that the series started out as spoofs of the fantasy genre, so I'm not going to take the books seriously until I get an indication that it's growing out of spoof-dom.

Butcher's protagonist is a geek, and basically talks the way you'd expect a geek to talk. (This also explains why my husband is such a staunch s

This is a purely wonderful crime-mystery fantasy read. Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden you have won me over!

"I don't want to live in a world where the strong rule and the weak cower."

Pure entertainment; a wonderful escape!

A wizard with a good soul and a snarky sarcastic personality; who could ask for anything more. Really? Ok, well then let's throw in some sex-trade workers, magic, vampires, the unknown warlock, a cat named "Mister" and one liners that will have you cracking up laughing a

Harry Dresden is a wizard for hire. He is at the end of his rope, late on his rent with no way to pay in the near future when he gets a call. A woman is looking for her missing husband, this is not a case he would normally take but he is broke and close to desperate.

While waiting for the woman to show up he gets a call from the police that they would like him to come and look at a crime scene. What he finds when he walks in makes him sick, literally. A couple at the height of passion had their

Harry Dresden, Wizard, is a consultant for the Chicago PD on cases involving the paranormal, though he has a tense relationship with them. He is also being watched by the White Council for possible use of dark magic. When a case of magical murders pits him against another would be Wizard and also the local mafia he has lots of ways he could die before solving the case. This was fantastical but not in the way Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson. They are much better. This has a sort of noir feel to it ...more

That was not at all what I expected. My son (a huge Terry Brooks and Robert Jordan fan) gave me the series at least five years ago, and I kept putting off reading it. I may have never read it except that a few people in my book club read it and surprisingly really liked it. It was quirky. I liked it.
