Well, this was a fun ride. I'm not sure what I was expecting beyond the recommendations of a good book. It was a good enough first book for me to want to read the next few books. Harry Dresden, Wizard, is a consultant for the Chicago PD on cases involving the paranormal, though he has a tense relationship with them. He is also being watched by the White Council for possible use of dark magic. When a case of magical murders pits him against another would be Wizard and also the local mafia he has lots of ways he could die before solving the case. This was fantastical but not in the way Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson. They are much better. This has a sort of noir feel to it
