#1 in The Dresden Files paranormal mystery series
What a great start to a new-to-me series. I've heard good things about Harry Dresden, and I'm totally on board. I wasn't sure at first about James Marsters' narration, but he definitely grew on me, and now he IS the voice of Harry. I was worried about his fade-away voice (meaning he started by getting quieter as the sentence went on, and I sometimes had a hard time hearing him), but either I got used to it or he got better, because it didn't turn ...more

An ok start. If I hadn't heard that these books were really good and seen that the remaining books have a higher rating than this one, I may not have continued, since there wasn't all that much that was special to me about this one. I have had this book on my TBR list for years. I am so glad that I finally took the time to read it. Harry is the only professional wizard listed in the Chicago phonebook. His relationship with the police through Special Investigations helps him pay his bills. When a couple is found murdered by a powerful magic, Harry is the first suspect. Excellent characters, compelling storyline. I think there is something about Harry that I could come to love. 4 stars

I tried listening to this one and i didn't like the narrator. The story is interesting but just not for me.
