3 stars. I definitely enjoyed this one a lot more than the first book, especially the first half of this book. It only gets 3 stars because the second half was really ridiculous and boring to me.

There was a really badass and awesome shoot out scene that was so much fun to read. The beginning was great and I found that I had no trouble getting into this book like I did the first one. I liked the new characters for the most part but by the end everyone had started to get on my nerves.

Reread Jan 11, 2025: I forgot the plot before I got to The Waste Lands, so I'm doing a reread. Same as before. I really like Odetta/Detta.

The last time I read this I was 14 and now I'm already 24... I didn't even realize how many details I had forgotten in ten years. I reread books quite rarely (so much to read, so little time), but ten years ago I fell in love with these books and it's wonderful to travel with Roland again. It's interesting to read the story again now that I'm older and now that I know how it all ends. It makes me see everything in a new way. By the way, I think it's quite fitting that I finished this today (19th ...more

Never have I seen a series where the second book has such a positive turnaround from the trainwreck that is the first book. The Gunslinger was a nightmare to read, with assumptions left and right and almost 200 pages of just walking, no real action. This book, however, was a great read! Still not sure what convinced me to start reading (well, listening to) it a couple weeks ago, but I'm glad I did! ...more
