I have a vastly different opinion of this book then almost all of my GR friends who adored this one. I couldn't stand either of the two main MC's. I say main because there were two relationships in this book and I actually enjoyed the secondary one more than the primary. The only thing I can say is maybe these two idiots deserved each other.

I liked the beginning of this book but once Aline broke up with McKenna it just went south badly. I REALLY disliked McKenna when he came back. I liked the beginning of this book but once Aline broke up with McKenna it just went south badly. I REALLY disliked McKenna when he came back. Not only is he an idiot because really believing her lies when they broke up 12 years later when he was her best friend was just stupid. She had shown her true feelings SO MANY times prior to the breakup that he should have figured it out and the fact that he didn't was stupid. But his OVERREACTION to it was horrible. He decides she owes him sex and he's going to compromise her, hopefully get her pregnant and then leave her or at best make her his mistress. The things he says to her are outrageous

“My lady, you’re about to receive an education in how to conduct an affair. Because for the duration of my stay at Stony Cross, you’re going to work off your debt to me…on your back, your knees, or any other position I desire you in.”

Wow I didn't know you can't break up with a man without out owing him sex. And she not only forgives this but falls for him when he's being a complete bastard. Get a freaking backbone Aline.

Then when he finally gets over himself she treats him like crap because she has a secret that she thinks will tear them apart. I was hoping for something really good but it was SO LAME! Really one conversation would have solved this. So I'm not particularly liking her but then she goes and does something that makes me really dislike her. She outs the one person who has been her true friend and kept all of her secrets (which are nothing compared to his which can get him killed). Worst she does it without a thought to Adam. She has no idea what McKenna will do with that information and it isn't hers to share.

At this point I've just thrown up my hands and realized these two are not the kind of people I would ever want in my life. The only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is the secondary romance was actually a lot better. It's a shame because I'm normally a fan of Lisa Kleypas but this one gets a "Hell No" from me. ...more

This was the second book that I've read from this author and I really love her writing style. This book is another thumbs up for me.

Lady Aline Marsden fell in love with John Mckenna but had when Aline’s father found out about them. He threatens to ruin McKenna. Aline tries to convince her father that she will get rid of McKenna but her father made other plans.
