After totally hating the first book, I gave this series another try and found I really liked Sookie, Bill, Sam and even Eric. I will definitely be reading further into the series.

3.5 stars. I like Sookie and I like the stories, but there were things in this book that I didn't care for: the cults and sex club.

Liked this one a lot more than the first one. Sookie wasn't quite as annoying. If anything Bill annoyed me more. Which is weird, as I really liked him in the first book.
Ok, so, in this one we have 2 story threads - the first concerning the murder of Lafayette. The second involving a trip to Dallas and a run in with the Fellowship of the Sun. Both were dealt with rather well, Sookie is growing on me - as is Eric (hmmm, attending an orgy in pink lycra, nice). He's the kind of guy you don't want to ...more

The second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Sookie and Bill travel to Dallas to help the vampire coven there find a memebr who has disappeared. Sookie also investigates the murder of one of the bars employees. So far these books have sucked me in and I'm eager to read more of the series.

Didn't like this as much as the first one, but enough to immediately go to the library and get the third book. Because of the TV series, I'm on Team Bill and the constant bickering between Sookie and Bill gets grating at times. Hepburn and Tracy they're not.

Loved it, loved it, loved it!
In real life I'd probably find Sookie annoying. However, being inside her head is fun and she's believable. Anyone who has ever been an outcast and had to struggle to fit in can identify with her. She's also got a hilarious internal monologue going on as she finds herself in dangerous, unbelievable circumstances and faces them matter-of-factly. Her love scenes with her vampire beau, Bill, are hot but down-to-earth. Even more so are the tense almost-love scenes with E ...more

I guess I'm doing a reread of the series. It's fun to see things knowing what will happen -- Sookie meeting some werewolves, Sam flirting (badly) with her, her love and doubts about Bill, Eric's fascination with and for her, and Sookie's willingness to go toe-to-toe with people much more powerful than she is.
Her phone conversation to invite Eric to an orgy is still a laugh out loud moment for me. ...more
