Only 2 books have ever made me cry before - one was the Notebook and the other I can't recall (but I'm pretty sure it was animal related) - and I only cried at the end after I got to know the characters and their stories; this one had me going from the beginning through to the last chapter. That the author was able to make me care about the characters, their story and their heartache, that quickly speaks volumes about the book and the depth of emotion in it. What a lovely read. I have purposely avoided watching this movie all these years until I had read the book and finally I have. It was a lot less depressing than I thought it would be, but at the same time very real. I decided to read this book for the Winter Challenge and I really ended up loving it. I enjoyed the movie so much I was a bit nervous that the book would not compete with it but alas I was very pleasantly surprised. I even cried at some parts which for me equals a good read.
