It took me a long while to get in to this, mainly because I found the unnamed narrator so insipid and annoying. I just wanted her to grow a spine. Perhaps, in the 21st century we have become so conditioned to reading about strong heroines that it felt alien to have a main protagonist who was so weak. But once the party had passed and the boat which Rebecca had died in was found, the pace and the tension really picked up and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I got towards the end. It was great reading i

Beautifully written. Hard to get into at first. Every time I made headway, it was returned to the library, as it’s constantly in demand.

The tale of the second Mrs. deWinter and how her husband maximilian is still haunted by his first wife Rebecca. For some reason I thought this was going to be a ghost story which it isn't. It is an absorbing love story with plenty of twists and turns and a few good villians.
