A fun cover and a great premise drew me to add The Midnight Library to my TBR. It was a good, no GREAT choice. I had a wonderful time reading this one and didn't want to put it down. It moves quite nicely at a medium pace and has great emotional content. There are moments of high tension, but it is mostly a ride that pulls at the heartstrings and made me contemplate pieces of my own life.

Nora Seed believes she has nothing left to live for and decides to end her life. What she doesn't expect is to have her path put her on a different path one where she can choose the type of life she may want, but will she find what she is looking for?
This was different then what I usually read, I have to say it was pretty good. I liked the idea of getting a second chance or two at what if's. I thought this was well written and takes a heavy subject and has Nora exploring possibilities all the wh ...more

This was more thought-provoking than I expected. Normally, when people ask me if I could go back in time and change my mistakes, what would I change and my answer was always "nothing." My mistakes and hardships in life is what makes me whom I am today. For better and worse. But what about when this life I live is over? Would I want the answers to those "what ifs?" Would I want a second chance at a life? This book explores those possibilities. From relationship regrets, to what about that fleetin

Matt Haig is one of my all time favourite authors so I couldn't wait to pick this one up.
Although I was a little worried about triggering content as the author's depiction of depression and suicide is pretty full-on, it was dealt with in a very sensitive and necessary way.
Now, when it comes to multiverse theory/time travel, this is a very difficult path to walk and while Matt Haig gives it a good go, there are still some pretty wide plot holes. I can't go too much into details without spoilers ...more

A well written book with an interesting premise, executed in an easy to read fable. It's laid out exactly how you would expect a book in this genre to be, no shocks or twists, a predictable ending. Great summer beach read when you want to relax into a nice, compelling, yet not strenuous book.

The grass isn't always greener and be careful what you wish for.
That combined with a hopeful (perhaps even happy) ending made this book shine for me. I really enjoyed reading it and am looking forward to talking about it with the library bookclub. ...more

I didn't love the first couple of chapters, but after that I read it in one sitting. So enjoyable!

From early childhood, Nora Seed liked learning and the possibilities books provided. Even as an adult, Nora’s favorite pieces still influence her actions to the point she explores many possibilities but not to their expected conclusions. When all of Nora’s active possibilities and life tethers end in one day, she’s depressed, feeling unnecessary until…

Many reviewers of this complain about its cliched, self-help vibe. But its cheesy "Life is worth living message" is part of what makes it worthwhile. The premise of the endless library and the quietly helpful librarian is lovely. The depression at the beginning is excellently drawn and very relatable.
I love Matt Haig, including his Comfort Book. Midnight Library is a great read for lovers of mainstream contemporary reads, literary fiction lovers, and people who need a little pick-me-up. ...more
