4.5 stars. So creative and wonderful. Colorful and beautiful with so much room for more. This is a really good book. I enjoyed it a lot. It somehow felt to me like a combination of the magic in reading that came from The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. It is weird, it is fantastical, and it is just what I've been looking for in terms of a concept.

This took awhile to properly get into. I loved the concept and I often enjoyed the story within the story. But twp things took away my full enjoyment of it. 1-footnotes. Not my thing ever. 2-Chapter confusion when trying to discuss the book with others as a buddy read. There are story chapters just numbers and then there are CHAPTERS for the book she is reading. So careful doing a buddy read or read-a-long with others to clarify which chapter you mean.

January LaVoy does an excellent job as narrator (and how interesting is her name?) and added much to my enjoyment. It was interesting to watch January (the protagonist) grow up, (view spoiler) , but sad to see her realize that someone she trusted all along was not who
