Somehow it just didn’t work for me. It wasn’t bad. It’s just that after so many enthusiastic reviews I expected it to much more interesting and entertaining. But it may be just my thing.
The truth is I am not a great fan of non-fiction books. Only recently I started to read more of them and some were really good so now I am more open to them. That's why I expected that the story of a real crime should be something I like. After all I really like detective stories. I think this is my first true cr ...more

Well written story about the Osage Indian Nation in Oklahoma and how the Government displaced and for years continued to violate their basic human rights. Through this you get the story of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman who has seen those closest to her die of seemingly natural causes or be murdered. No arrests made despite having advocates looking for answers. Years later J. Edgar Hoover becomes involved the F.B.I becomes a formidable force uncovering corruption and a Texas Ranger named Tom Wh

An extremely well-written account of serial murders of members of the Osage tribe in Oklahoma during the 1920s. Yet another testament to the sheer lack of the American educational system in terms of history of their own peoples as I had no idea about any of this information. This account is both intriguing and appalling. So much corruption and unfair treatment of human beings. Unfortunately a true exploration of the greed this nation was built upon and the ugly ways in which Native Americans hav

2.5 stars to 2 Goodreads stars. I had been looking forward to reading this book for years, probably since it first came out. I listened to the audiobook and found myself distracted at times; the narrator did not keep my attention. There is a movie coming out in the near future, but I think I will skip it, but with t

The story of the Osage murders is heinous and it's sad that we Americans don't learn about such important parts of our history. I'm thankful to have been introduced to the Osage nation, but the author's dry writing leaves something to be desired
