This book is pitched as "Gossip Girl meets Get Out." Perhaps I should have thought more about that rather than just falling into the hype of it being the latest 4-5 star rated YA thriller. The biggest thought in my mind was that the two main characters were being blackmailed and yet they just keep talking about their transgressions or performing their transgressions, if you will....fanning the flames. I had seen this blurbed as Get Out meets Gossip Girl and while I have never seen Get Out, I am a big fan of Gossip Girl so I was definitely intrigued by that premise. This is a more slow burn of a thriller for much of the book, it's a good plot and I really enjoyed the Gossip Girl style with which Aces was terrorizing our main characters, but it didn't quite have me on the edge of my seat until the last 15% or so when everything came to a head. Thought this was a great sample piece of a new book and I from what I read so far I think I will be picking up this book in the near future. I think so far the characters and plot sound like something I would love to read more about.
This is a book that pulls you in from the beginning. I know lot’s of people say it has gossip girl vibes, but the stakes are higher and the ending, wow.
