Skimmed most of the book. I think I was sold on The Handmaid’s Tale reference in the blurb, but this book is just another toxic females story. There’s an ending where supposedly women like each other, but it feels unearned. Also I hated the romance. I usually hate YA romances, but this one is especially shitty. I was going to type a rant but I’m not going to waste more of my time, I’m just going to scrub my brain off any memory of reading this.

I have been reading this book for a long time. I started it when the COVID shutdown started in March of 2020 and read about about halfway through and then I misplaced the book so I didn’t read it for months. The ending saved this book, completely. It got really emotional at the end, and also brought everything together in a way that left the reader with some sliver of hope.

Well. It was interesting story and I do find stories like this intriguing. For at least me the story unfolded as pretty predictable. I did love the elements and I do think this one had pretty great potential for different kind of ending. I listened the audio version of this and I was bothered how the meanest girl always gets that squeakiest voice of them all. It was like listening some stereotypical high school drama thing at some points.

Nothing makes any logical sense in this book. It was flat and emotionless.

4.5 stars rounded up. Really enjoyed the “fight the patriarchy “ theme in the book. It seems very appropriate in this day and age.
