I have a lot to say about this novel but won't say it all here. I was intrigued by it when I saw it being released as it takes place during the 1918 flu epidemic & seemed timely. She wrote it prior to the current pandemic & delivered final draft to publishers in March 2020 so it's eerily prescient. So many things seemed to come from current life, from behaviors to people's comments to government pronouncements. A hard to put down story about the influenza pandemic in 1918 and very relevant to what's doing on today.

It was eye opening to read this book in the midst of a pandemic. It was a little slow to start for me but then once I got a little bit into it I could hardly put it down. I had no idea how this book was going to end and the ending was heartbreaking but also heartwarming. I really enjoyed this one, highly recommended!

The author started this book in 2018, 100 years after the Great Influenza Epidemic, and sent it to her publisher in March 2020, just as Covid hit. It is set in Dublin, Ireland, in 1918, at the height of flu epidemic. The MC is Julia Power, a nurse, who works in an extremely short-staffed maternity ward. It's a gritty read. Well-researched in the medical methods of the time, it is an eye-opener. My only negative comment is that I truly dislike reading stories with no quote marks for conversation.
