I'm between 3.5 and 4 on this one. I enjoyed it and thought it was very clever storytelling. I wasn't as enamored as other reviewers have been, although I can see why they are. My appreciation did grow more towards the end as I understood the bigger picture of Evelyn's life and choices.

The book has two main story lines. One is present day, told through the eyes of a 30-something journalist, Monique, who is offered the opportunity to write the memoir of Evelyn Hugo, a beautiful, successful actres

Wow! This was much better than I expected. It has been given such great reviews that I was leery of the hype, particularly about a Hollywood expose type story. This wasn't at all what I expected and I found myself quite gripped in the second half of the book. I don't want to say much more than that as I think this is the sort of book to go into without too much knowledge and watch things unfold.

My only criticism would be that I felt that the older Evelyn being interviewed was almost too enigmatic, to the point that I couldn't really access her as a fully formed person. I understood that hiding parts of herself and presenting the 'Evelyn Hugo' that the
