Not overly political. Just about her life & learning how to live w/a politician/President & how it affected all of their lives both good and bad.

This was an excellent read -- Michelle's story is interesting, honest and clarifying, and she's also an excellent writer. This memoir is stirring, insightful, and illuminating. The writing changed perceptions about the woman who is married to the 44th president.

She tells her life story divided into three sections. The first is her life experiences during her childhood through college. The second is her life experiences from the time she graduated college, met Barak, married him, and began the years of politics. The third section follows her life experiences as the first lady.

I am never sure on how to rate autobiographies and memoirs. This is about as well written as I'd expect, with interesting insight into Michelle Obama's life as Michelle Robinson, one of a close-knit family with dreams and aspirations. I liked how candid she was about motherhood versus career versus relationship, and how she had to balance raising her girls with Barack's ambitions, while still trying to figure out how she could have an impact in the Obamas' historic tenure as the first black fami ...more

Honestly, I didn't think I would've liked this book. I thought it'd be way too political and dry for my liking so while I was aware of it, I've never added it to my TBR or bothered to even check out reviews etc. Until, a good friend said that's it's actually pretty good and noting her reading preferences, I thought, this could be okay. An exceptional memoir, this book moves seamlessly between the personal and political and works equally well on both levels. The prose is both crisp and beautiful. This book was both inspiration and solace. I want everyone I know to read it. I want to read it again.

Hopeful

Reading this and teaching minority students who mostly live below the poverty line, brings me hope for the future and how powerful young adults can be when they keep their future focused forward. Light read and inspiring.
