Michelle Obama’s memoir / autobiography takes her from her childhood through college, her first years as an attorney, meeting Barack and their time in the White House as President and First Lady. Through her words I felt that I really got to know this remarkable woman. She is

This autobiography covers Michelle Obama's childhood, college experiences, career, meeting and marrying Barack Obama and time in the White House. I admire Michelle Obama and found this glimpse into her life to be interesting. The concern she has for her own children and children in general comes shining through. The book comes cross at least in part as an aspirational story to encourage kids to overcome obstacles in their lives. While this is obviously one of her passions it was a bit too rah ra

I’m relatively sure Michelle Obama’s Becoming doesn’t need a publisher’s summary. It’s simply her story, from growing up in the South Side of Chicago to her tenure as First Lady of the United States.
I really enjoyed this one. Off the bat, you should know that political rhetoric and policy play a very small role in the book. Even if you don’t lean towards the Obamas politically, you can read and appreciate this book without being overrun with their political viewpoint.

“Let’s invite one another in. Maybe then we can begin to fear less, to make fewer wrong assumptions, to let go of the biases and stereotypes that unnecessarily divide us. Maybe we can better embrace the ways we are the same. It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about where you get yourself in the end. There’s power in allowing yourself to be known and heard, in owning your unique story, in using your authentic voice. And there’s grace in being willing to know and hear others. This, for me, is

She is not her husband :-D
I enjoy her story of her childhood. I love the courting. The proposal was delicious :-D
I have laughed, I have cried, and I love this woman :-)
I loved to hear how she sees her husband.
And I'll stop this review, because otherwise I'll talk about politics. ...more

Interesting look from inside the fishbowl and how they got there.

Interesting read about a woman dragged into politics who adapted with grace. Her voice shines through -- it feels very authentic. I kept seeing how the stories about her experiences matched up with the news stories. It does reinforce what a rotten place America is, or maybe Americans are, although she would disagree.
