I'm beginning to think these Jack Reacher books just aren't for me.

As a fan of the Jack Reacher Series, THE AFFAIR was ok; not good, but not bad. Lee Child takes the reader back to 1997 when our intrepid loner was still an Army MP on an undercover assignment to Carter Crossing, Mississippi. His assignment is to make nice with local law enforcement and relay what they know to his superiors. A young beautiful woman has been murdered. Her throat slit. Her bloodless body left in an alley. Her suspected killer, a solder stationed at the nearby base. A soldier who ha

I never understood why Reacher left the Army and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. The Affair is the author's attempt of an explanation. Mr. Child ticked all the boxes - the reasons why Reacher found himself in the outs with the brass made total sense. At the end, Reacher ended up avenging the innocent, punishing the guilty and saving the Army from a terrible scandal. It was sad though that after all his work, he got the boot for it.

This one is set right before the first book, Killing Floor. Reacher is still in the army & is sent to Mississippi to investigate the murder of a woman near Kelham base. He rolls into town looking for trouble, & finds it as soon as one could wish, meets a beautiful woman, & finds the best place to eat. I really like the efficient way he disposed of the culprits in the end - way to make use of available resources! Fast-paced & entertaining as ever.

Did exactly what I wanted and expected. These are a bit long for their fun, but justice triumphs (mostly) and the case is solved. Bad guys lose but bureaucracy is not as easily defeated.
Reread for book club.
This time I enjoyed watching him set up his nomadic future as well as enjoy his time with the lady sheriff. I had forgotten the entire plot, including Reacher’s handling of the ending. Interesting talk with the group around that bit.

I honestly don't understand the appeal because it's a macho action-film sort of gimmick, but these stories just suck me in and I keep reading them. Entertaining and the female sheriff wasn't horribly portrayed, she was rather interesting once you look past being Reacher's flavor-of-the-week for this book. I liked taking a look at Reacher's past and some of the events that lead to him leaving the Army.

I felt like catching up on more Reacher because I've just been watching the new series with Alan Ritchson. And as much as I enjoyed Jeff Harding as a narrator, I found myself wishing that Ritchson is narrating this one lol. And by the way, there wasn't so much sex in prior Reacher books but this one just skyrocketed beyond any others. *fans self*
Um but I still did roll my eyes at yet again, Reacher got his chick. However, it was an interesting time setting as set months before the first book, so ...more
