I thought this was a great start to the series. I had previously tried to read a short story from this series that takes place several books from now and I couldn't get into it, but now I'm a total fan of the series and can't wait to read more. I was pleasantly surprised at the action and adventure contained in this series as much as I was pleased with the romance aspect as well. I do worry that because the relationship between Cat and Bones advanced super quickly that it may get boring faster t ...more

#1 in the Night Huntress series

I can't believe I'm giving this high a rating to a vampire book, but I'm now a convert! I'd actually rate this 4.5 stars, if I could, but I'm rounding up because I enjoyed it so much. It's definitely a romance first, in my mind, and the fact that vampires and a half-vampire and ghouls are involved in the story just makes things more interesting and a lot more flexible. Since she was 16 Cat has been kicking and killing vampire butt. Cat herself is a product of a vampire rape of a human, so she is a half-bred.

Now at 22 she is still kicking vampire butt, she has met her match (in more ways than one) in Bones.

I loved every second of their interactions, often funny, sometimes romantic, all times real. He was so open with her, after their initial meeting

I am so tired of idiot heroines.

I listened to this book the first time and I'm not a fan of audiobooks. I'm really not a fan of calling an adult woman "Kitten" as a nickname. And when it is done by an American woman using a fake, "sexy" male British voice, it is worse. So very much worse.

My audiobook prejudice meant I would give the second book a shot. However, to my surprise when I started reading it, I had no idea what was going on. Turns out, I slept through at least the last 50 pages and di

Rating 4.5/5

Well, *clears throat* that was something quite… different. The oh-my-god-that-was-freaking-fantastic and give-me-the-second-book-right-now kind of different.
